What is the key stages of writing a formulae?

RE: Formulae

Hi Veena,

Thanks for the question

The fundamental rule is to press = at the beginning, then you must put the cell ref then the operator (+ - / or *) and continue until you decide you have finished then you press enter. So for example =A1+B1+C1 (enter). Also remember excel follows the rules of BODMAS so 1+2*3 will be 7 because the multiplication comes before the addition.

If there is anything specific you would like me to help you with let me know

Excel tip:

Turn Function tooltips on and off

Excel 2002 (XP) and Excel 2003 have the Function tooltips facility. When you type in a function name followed by a bracket, for example, =IF(, a yellow box appears beside the function name and lists the function's arguments. This is very useful when you can't quite remember the order of a function's arguments or what the arguments actually are!

However, Function tooltips can become annoying. To turn them off, choose Tools|Options. and select the General tab. Then, untick the Function tooltips box and choose OK.
