Sum of qualitative values

How could I sum values in Column B for each item in Column A when Column A is text? For example, what are the subtotals for Seafarer, Accountancy and Care Worker in the following (though my actual list is 1000s of rows):
Column A Column B
Seafarer 5
Seafarer 9
Accountancy 20
Accountancy 33
Accountancy 56
Care Worker 4
Care Worker 8

RE: Sum of qualitative values

Hi Cath,

Thank you for the forum question.

Sort column A ascending or descending.

Select a cell in the data range. Click Subtotal in the Outline group on the Data tab.

Tick Column A from For each change in.

Select Sum from function option.

Add subtotal to Column B
