Excel 2016, shortcuts for precedents across tab/sheets

Hello,

We tend to have excel with many sheets and they tend to refer to each other.

For one of them, it can be a simple reference e.g. ='Sheet1'!A3 (approximated spelling for visual aid only) for instance, but it can also be more than one reference like ='Sheet1'!A3+'Sheet2'!Z33

To "run" to a particular reference, a quick shortcut of Ctrl+[ is required, but it only goes to the first reference. Is there a way to choose the 2nd or 3rd reference for instance?

Using the mouse to click on trace all precedents seems too long, as then I have to double click a certain place and then figure out which one to use using the mouse.

Many thanks.

RE: Excel 2016, shortcuts for precedents across tab/sheets

Hello Michael,

Thank you for your question. One way to jump to any reference in a formula is to double-click on the formula in its cell, highlight the reference inside the formula you wish to go to, press F5, then Enter. This will take you to the sheet and cell(s) you selected.

I hope this helps!

Kind regards

Excel tip:

Quickly copy a formula across sheets

Suppose you have a formula in cell Sheet1!B2, say =A1*5%, that you wish to copy to cell B2 on Sheet2, Sheet3 and Sheet4. Instead of using copy and paste, try this: (1) Select Sheet1!B2. (2) Group Sheet1 with the worksheets Sheet2, Sheet3 and Sheet4 by holding down Ctrl and clicking on the tabs of the sheets to group them. (3) Press the F2 key, then immediately press Enter to copy the formula in Sheet1!B2 across the grouped sheets.

Remember to ungroup the sheets afterwards! Right-click on any tab and choose Ungroup Sheets to do that.
