Vlookup, INdex/Match in Excel
on what circumstances you use Vlookup and Index/Match and how would you decide it looking at the data in an office environment.
Please give me a good example
RE: Vlookup, INdex/Match in Excel
Hi Thilak,
Index/Match is the better tool to use most of the time.
It is quicker than a vlookup, and more versatile. You do not need to have your data in a predictable layout and you do not need to have the code that you are looking up in the first column of your data table.
Vlookups are heavier on system resources and if you have a lot of data they can be significantly slower than index/match.
If you are starting from the beginning then use index/match.
Vlookups are great if you have a simple and constant layout for your data but if you can use both functions we would recommend using index/match.
thanks
Claire
