Heather has attended:
Excel Intermediate course
Data from External Source
In the course last October, I recall briefly discussing pulling live exchange rates from the internet, directly into Excel.
Would you please be able to send me a reminder of how to do this.
Many Thanks
Heather
RE: Data from External Source
Hi Heather,
Thank you for the forum question.
It is a very interesting option in Excel linking to websites.
From the DATA tab in the ribbon in the GET EXTERNAL DATA group click FROM WEB. Type the address to the website in the ADDRESS field and press the GO button. The tables you can link to Excel will on the website be represented by yellow boxes with an arrow inside. Click on the yellow box representing the table you want to link to Excel. Click the IMPORT button in the bottom right corner of the Excel web browser. A IMPORT DATA dialog box will appear. Click PROPERTIES if you want to set properties for the link (you can tell Excel how often you want to refresh the link).
On the course we used Bank of England as an example.
http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/boeapps/iadb/Rates.asp
If you add the link above to the Excel web browser and click GO you will get to Bank of England's currency rates. You will find the yellow box with and arrow in the top left corner on the website. Click the box and click IMPORT.
I hope this can help you.
Kind regards
