Multiple Users Updating a Central Spreadsheet

If there was a central spreadsheet on a network and the team had to update their section, how do you allow multiple users to update the spreadsheet without it being 'read only'?

RE: Multiple Users Updating a Central Spreadsheet

Hi Rehana

Thanks for your question.

For multiple users to access your Excel file you first save it into a common shared foldfer on the network.
Then make it into a shared workbook as follows:

Select the Review tab, Share Workbook
Tick the option
'Allow changes by more than one user at the same time.'

Pressin Ok then resaves the file and allows multiple users to open it without the workbook being read only.

If you ever need to make it unshared remove the same tick in Review, Share Workbook.

This is used mainly for data entry. Pivot tables and graphs cannot be created while it is a shared workbook.

Hope that works for your example with multiple sheets.

Excel tip:

Sorting data stored in rows

Primarily Excel is set up to sort data that is stored in columns rather than rows.

It is possible to get Excel to sort data stored in rows however.

Click in the row you want to sort, or select the cells in the rows you wish to sort.

Go to Data - Sort, then go to the Options button in the bottom left corner of the Sort dialogue box.
