Data From Web to Excel

Hi

I would like to have a list of the ask price of exchange rates for every day of the year. We currently type these out manually day-by-day, like this:

| 01/01/2015 | 0.7356 |
| 02/01/2015 | 0.7358 |
| 03/01/2015 | 0.7256 |

I wondered if I could use the "Data > From Web" so that it can look against the table online and then I can refresh it to update.

I have tried following the stages (where you select the little yellow box to import) to the website that we currently use called Oanda.com, but it comes up with a script error.

I am not sure where to look on the Bank of England website, which was one of the examples in your lesson.

Hope you can help!

RE: Data From Web to Excel

Hi Lauren,

Thank you for the forum question.

I have tested Oanda.com and I also got script errors but that is normal when we do this. Just click NO to the errors. Well you cannot set up a link to this website. The website is build very unusual and the queries return no data to Excel

The linked used on the course is the one below but it does not show historical data.

You may have to look after another website with the information you need.

Excel tip:

Filtering Data in an Excel 2010 Worksheet

When you have an Excel Worksheet with masses of data, it's not going to be easy to sift through it. So, in order to view sections of data, you can use the filter tool. Select the cells you want to filter (no need to select the column headers), then click the Home tab on the Ribbon, click Sort and Filter (you will find this in the Editing Section) then click Filter.

You will now see arrows in the top row of all the columns. If you click on an arrow, it will give you some filtering options so you can sort your data into ''Smallest to Largest'' or ''Oldest to Newest'' and so on..

To turn off the filtering, go back to the Home tab and click the Filter button again.
