VLOOKUP

Hi Best IT,
I am using the following VLOOKUP formula to establish the following;
1)Transports in 1 but not in 2
2)Transports in 2 but not in R

Worksheet for R32
=VLOOKUP(A2,'R31 SCM Report 07052015'!$1:$1048576,1,0)
Worksheet for R3R
=VLOOKUP(A61,'R32'!$1:$1048576,1,0)
I have a return of N/A's (which according to my logic should return results of transports that are NOT in the systems. However, when I select the range of transports(data) and double check them in the systems logs, the transports are there!
Please help, this was one of the main areas that I wanted to conquer on the course and I thought I had understood this.

Please respond ASAP.
Kind Regards
Mark

PS. I can send you the actual worksheets (raw data)if you like.

RE: VLOOKUP

Hi Mark,

Thank you for the forum question.

If the lookup value isn't in the first column in the lookup array the function return N/A.

You can test the lookup value against the lookup value in the lookup array. Lets say that you in A1 have the lookup value and you have the lookup value in you lookup array in B10.

If you in a cell types =Exact(A1,B10) the exact function will return true if we have the exact same value in the two cells and false if the cells do not have an exact match.

Specially if we import data to Excel we can get unprintable characters, unwanted spaces after the entries and much more. We have some cleaning tools in Excel which can be helpful if this is the issue.

Please test the lookup value which return N/A against the value it didn't find in the lookup array.

Please let me know if the exact function return TRUE. If it return FALSE have a look at the CLEAN function and TRIM function.

Please let me know if you need more help.

Kind regards

Excel tip:

Change the Print button so it brings up the Print dialogue box

If you want to bring up the Print dialogue box to check your print settings when you hit the Print button, do the following:

1. Right-click on the toolbar that displays the Print button.

2. Select Customise.

3. Click on the Print button on the toolbar to select it, then hold the left mouse button down and drag the button towards the screen below. The button should come off the toolbar.

4. In the Customise dialogue box on your screen, select the Commands tab.

5. Select File from the Categories list, and then locate the Print... icon (looks like the normal Print button, but the word Print has three dots following it).

6. Click on the Print... icon to select it, then use your left mouse to drag and drop the icon onto the toolbar at the top of the screen.

7. Close the Customise dialogue box.
