Database Functions

Database functions -

I have created a spread sheet that is linked to a summary tab which has a criteria element however when using the DCOUNT function it returns no values even before any criteria is applied.

It shows 0

The data range has been named
The column names of the criteria match those in the data base. I have followed the templates in the course folder, however can not understand why it will not work.

Many thanks

RE: Database Functions

Hello Jack,

Thank you for your question. Just checking: is the data you wish to count made up of numbers or text? If it is alphanumeric (i.e. numbers and text) or just text, DCOUNT will always give a result of 0 because DCOUNT only counts numbers. You would need to use DCOUNTA to count text items. In fact, DCOUNTA will count all items in a range, regardless what they are.

Please post again if this does not solve your problem.

Kind regards

Excel tip:

Change the default location for opening and saving spreadsheets

If you are always opening spreadsheets from and/or saving documents to a specific location that is not My Documents, save time by setting this folder as the default for opening files from and saving files to.

Here's how:
1. Go to Tools - Options.

2. Select the General tab.

3. Enter the pathname of the folder you wish to make the default in the Default File Location box (hint: it will be easier to use Windows Explorer to navigate to this folder, then copy and paste the pathname from the address bar at the top of the Windows Explorer screen).

4. Click OK.

You have now changed the default folder for opening and saving spreadsheets.
