Complicated finance workbook with "legacy" formulas

Is there a way to view a budget workbook that'll make it easy for me to see the mish mash of legacy formulas all over it?

The workbook has clearly been "save as"ed every year for the last century and each year new tabs (there are 20-odd) and formulas have been added so it's now a right mess and very tricky to see what's pulling through to / from where.

Is there a handy way to view it that might help me? Or should I just give up and start to build the workbook for next year from scratch?

Any ideas or advice gratefully received. J

RE: Complicated finance workbook with "legacy" formulas

Hi Jae,

Thank you for the forum question.

To help getting an overview of the functions, linked cells and calculations in a workbook you can find some tools which can be useful on the FORMULAS tab in the FORMULA AUDITING group.

If you click SHOW FORMULAS you can see all the functions/formulas in the worksheet.

You can trace precedents and dependents to see how you get the grand totals.

If the workbook is linked to other workbooks you can go to the DATA tab in the CONNECTIONS group and click EDIT LINKS and you can find the links in the workbook.

I hope this can help you.
