Locking text

I would like to know how I can lock text (prevent changes) within a document. This is important as we are developing templates and need to make sure certain parts aren’t altered at all.

I am working in Word 2013.

RE: Locking text

Hello Bryanie,

Thank you for your post. The easiest way to protect your text is as follows:

1. Apply Continuous Section Breaks to the text areas you wish to protect.
(Page Layout - Breaks - Continuous)
2. Go to the Review ribbon and select Restrict Editing.
3. At option 2, Editing Restrictions, select Filling in Forms.
4. Click on the Select Sections... link.
5. Tick the sections you wish to protect.
6. Enter and confirm your password when prompted.
7. Click Yes, Start Enforcing Protection.

Your selected sections should now be protected.

Best of luck!

RE: Locking text

Thank you, that's great! I have noticed that Word encounters problems if you try to restrict editing whilst in the header zone instead of the document body.

RE: Locking text

Hi Bryanie,

You're welcome. Yes, it's a bit more fiddly with headers and footers. You have to insert breaks just below the headers on all the pages before the text starts and then protect those header / footer sections. It's painstaking but there's little else you can do.

I hope it works for you.
Marius
