How would I perform a view look up?

RE: View look up

Hi Nifemi

Thanks for getting in touch. A VLOOKUP is one of the most popular functions in Excel. Its most common use is to retrieve data from other Excel tables.

It looks like this:

=VLOOKUP(lookup_value, table_array, column index num, match type)

lookup_value is what you are searching for
table_array is the main source data
column index num is the column of data you're trying to retrieve
match type is whether you want an exact or not

There is a more thorough discussion of the topic in our article:

Excel tip:

Naming and Using Constants

Constants make calculations easier so worksheets are more easily understood. Constant values also need to be given relevant and memorably names. It is also easier to change the value of a constant.

For example:
Instead of entering 17.5% in each cell when you generate a VAT amount you could name a Constant "VAT" and assigning a "0.175" value to it. To do this:

From the 'Insert' menu select 'Name', then select 'Define'.

Enter the constant
