Linking

Hello

I want to create 2 columns, one that contains postcodes and one that has the corresponding wards of a particular borough.

I would like to create a link such that each time I select a postcode in the 'postcode' column, the 'ward' column to be updated automatically based on the postcode that I have chosen.

Please can you let me know how to achieve this?

Thank you in advance.

RE: Linking

Hi Genta

Thanks for getting in touch. During your Excel Advanced course you will have covered the VLOOKUP function which is perfect for what you want to achieve.

You would have a list of postcodes in one column, and wards in the next. You can then use a VLOOKUP function to retrieve the relevant ward. Check your course manual for more details.

Kind regards

Excel tip:

Colouring cells containing formulas

Cells in a worksheet can contain values or they can contain formulas. You may wish to identify all the cells in your worksheet that contain formulas by colouring those cells.

Follow these steps:
1. Choose Edit > Go To menu, or press either F5 or Ctrl+G. Excel displays the Go To dialog box.
2. Click Special. Excel displays the Go To Special dialog box.
3. Select the Formulas radio button option.
4. Select OK.

At this point, every formula cell in the worksheet is selected, and those cells can be coloured formatted as desired.
