Conditional formatting

When I select Highlighting cell rules, cell rules that contain It will only highlight the cell that I've highlighted. It will not highlight the rest of the cells that contain that word.

Also it only highlights the cell, not the row. I would like the whole row to be highlighted.

Thanks
Jade

RE: Conditional formatting

Hi Jade

Thanks for getting in touch. Conditionally formatting entire rows is not obvious. You need to apply a formula to the range.

Let's assume for this example you turning a row green when it contains the word "Yes". Your data is in cells A5:G20.

Go to Conditional Formatting > New Rule and select Use a Formula to determine which cells to format.

In Format values where this formula is true:

=$A5="Yes" (notice the $ before the column and not the row)

Click Format and choose your red colour. Click OK. In Applies To select the entire table over which you need this to work.

Give it a try and let us know how you get on.
