Line Chart

I am trying to create a line chart. I have selected my data and when I press insert then chart, line it creates a chart that doesn't reflect the dates that I have listed in one of my columns. The dates that I need to run along the horizontal axis aren't in sequence and for some reason it is pulling a date in January for every year.
Please help.
Thanks
Alice

RE: Line Chart

Hi Alice

It would be really helpful if you can send your example or a similar one.
I'm also sending you an example to play with as it might help with what you are wanting.

It shows a line chart with sales figures throughout one year with dates that are unevenly spead.

By Formatting the horizontal axis it is possible to display the 1st of every month.

Can also display the dates as months Jan, Feb etc by selecting Format Axis, Number, Custom
Type mmm as the custom format then Add button

Looking forward to seeing your example if you are able to send it.

Regards
Doug

Excel tip:

Creating custom lists

In Excel if you type in January in a cell, you can then copy this cell to replicate Febraury, MArch, April etc.

This list has come from Tools- options and Custom lists.

Therefore to save time and create your own list you can click on New (in Tools and custom list tab) and type out the lsit that you want copied quickly.

All you have to do is then type in the 1st word and you will be able to copy the rest of the list quickly.
