what is the report filter use for?

Thank you for your question.

The Report Filter or the Page field in earlier versions, is used to filter the main pivot table.

Let's say you have Town as the Row heading, Car as Column heading, Salary as the Data field and County as the Report Filter field. If you selected 'Hampshire' from the County Report Filter field, then the pivot table would show only the towns, cars and salaries for the people of Hampshire.
