Macros

How do you use macros in Excel?

RE: Macros

Hi Zohra

Thanks for your question.

The purpose of a macro is to speed up time-consuming and repetitive tasks by recording the steps that are involved in carrying out the task and saving them so that they can be performed quickly in future.

To record a macro, go to Tools - Macro - Record new macro. Once you have carried out the steps of the task you are automating, you stop recording by pressing the stop recording button or going to Tools - Macros - Stop Recording Macro.

You can also create a button on one of the toolbars and attach the macro to a button for ease of use.

Both of the above (creating a macro and assigning it to a button) will be covered as part of your course today, so I hope this answer and the course will provide you with sufficient understanding of why macros are used and how to create one should you need to.

Excel tip:

Go to source of a cell

The default setting in Excel is when you double click in a cell it actives the formula in the cell. If you have created a link and want to directly go to that link (say if on another sheet, click on Tools -options and take off the tick for eidt it directly in cell
