Protection settings
Hello
I am trying to set up a spreadsheet in which one range of rows is editable by all users: they should be able to insert rows as well as enter data.
There is another range of rows which I wish to lock up so that the cells only receive new data from another worksheet which has a paste link relationship. This second range of rows not permit row insertion.
If I protect the sheet it seems the INSERTION tool is entirely disabled, despite the fact that I have carefully defined which cell ranges are locked and which unlocked.
Also: how can we disable CELL insertion whilst retaining ROW insertion please?
RE: protection settings
Hi Liz
You cannot allow users to insert rows on certain cell ranges
checking this box will allow users to insert rows whether the cells are locked or unlocked.
What you want to achieve I don't think can be done through the protection dialog.
What you want to achieve can only be done by programming Excel using its own inbuilt programming language. We offer consultancy on this if you are interested?
I will refer this issue to our consultancy desk. They may drop you a line
Many thanks
