Macros

Need some enlightening on its applications

RE: macros

A Macro is a way of automating repetitive tasks. For Example, you may be responsible at the end of each day, to collate sales figures from several worksheets and paste them to a summary sheet, format the sheet to ensure it fits on an A4 Landscape page, then send it to the printer where you require 5 copies, then save this workbook to a new location.
If you have to perform the above tasks every single day you will find it more convenient to record a macro, as we did in the class, and assign a shortcut keystroke or attach it to a button.
Once completed, you would only then at the end of each working day, click the button and it will perform all those tasks automatically.
This is just one of many uses of Macros. They can be as simple as formatting a date (as we did in the class), or as complex as you make it.
Should you require any help in creating a macro please contact me.

Excel tip:

Change the default location for opening and saving spreadsheets

If you are always opening spreadsheets from and/or saving documents to a specific location that is not My Documents, save time by setting this folder as the default for opening files from and saving files to.

Here's how:
1. Go to Tools - Options.

2. Select the General tab.

3. Enter the pathname of the folder you wish to make the default in the Default File Location box (hint: it will be easier to use Windows Explorer to navigate to this folder, then copy and paste the pathname from the address bar at the top of the Windows Explorer screen).

4. Click OK.

You have now changed the default folder for opening and saving spreadsheets.
