Linking excel spreadsheets

I would like to be able to link actual total rows for each individual on one main data sheet.

Michelle

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Could you send me a sample of what you want to achieve with some dummy data.

My email address is newson@stl-training.co.uk

RE: linking excel spreadsheets

Hi Michelle

Thanks for sending the spreadsheets I’ve had a look and yes you can consolidate the data one with the months subject to the following

Firstly the month sheets should be set up identically with the same columns names
Secondly the same people should be in the same rows otherwise the you risk paying people the wrong salaries
Thirdly you need to construct the formulas in the data sheet by using the sum function and then selecting the sheets by using the shift key and select the cell you want summed. I have done this for gross pay in the data sheet. ( Note to select sheets click on the first sheet and then click on the last sheet with the shift key pressed.)

If you are worried about doing this yourself we do offer consultancy at affordable rates. We would construct the sheet for you and then show you how to use it and then document how the sheet works.

Thanks

Newson

Excel tip:

Selecting your working range

In excel if you have an area you want to highlight, press Ctrl + * or Ctrl+Shift+8 (to get the *). This will select your working range.
