How do pivot tables work?

RE: Pivot tables

Hello Amy

Thank you for your question and welcome to the forum.

A pivot table allows you to take data stored in a list/database and view the data in a tabular format. It allows for further breakdown/analysis of data over and above what you can do when the data is in a series of columns (e.g. applying subtotals).

To create a pivot table from a database, click in the database and go to Data - PivotTable and PivotChart Report and follow through the 3 step wizard to create a pivot table (or chart).

Kind regards
Amanda

The Easiest Way to See a Sum or Average in Excel 2010

Did you know the quickest and most simple way of working out the average or sum of a set of numbers?

Highlight numbers in cells or type some numbers in cells and then look at the status bar at the bottom of the window. Here you will see a display of the average of the numbers, as well as a count of the cells and the sum of these cells.
