Excel - linked Spreadsheets

When you open up a spreadsheet that is attached to another spreadsheet it asks you if you would like to update the spreadsheet, which is fine. What I would like to know is, is it possible to find out what cell(s) are updated if you click yes?
Thanks Wendy

RE: Excel - linked Spreadsheets

Hello Wendy

Thank you for your question.

If you choose not to update initially (so you can first check which cells would update), then you might be able to use the Find feature to identify cells with links, as long as you know what the name of the file is that the links are to.

You can find out the name/s of files that are linked to a spreadsheet by going to Edit - Links. The name/s of the file/s are shown in the Source column.

Once you know the name of the file/s that your spreadsheet is linked to, then go to Edit - Find (or Ctrl + F) then under Find what enter the filename of the linked spreadsheet.

Check next to Linked in that Formulas is selected, then click Find All. A list of the cells that are linked to the file should display in a box at the bottom of the screen. If you click on one of the cells listed, that cell will be selected for you automatically in the spreadsheet.

I hope this helps.
Amanda

Excel tip:

Move to edge of data block

When data is held in a block, however large, use the Ctrl key with your cursors to move quickly to the far edge of the block. Works with all 4 direction keys.
