Excel Dragging Formulae

When i drag a formula down a column - it is not continuously calculating the values instead it is just dragging the value of the first cell i pick. I can only get the answer to each fomula if i go into each cell and double click into it then press enter.

I'm guessing this has something to do with my settings in excel but can't work out why this has only just started to happen. never had a problem before

Some one help Please!

RE: Excel Dragging Formulae

Hello Victoria

Thank you for your question.

Perhaps Excel is set to calculate manually rather than automatically?

If you go to Tools - Options, then onto the Calculation tab, check Calculation is set to Automatic. If not, change to Automatic and click OK.

I hope this helps.
Amanda

RE: Excel Dragging Formulae

Thanks but i have just checked and this was already on Automatic. I don't know what else to do.

RE: Excel Dragging Formulae

Hi Vic

If you like (and if it's possible), you can email me a copy of the spreadsheet if you like and I'll have a look into this for you.

If you do send the spreadsheet, also let me know which column the formula is in that you are having trouble with.

You can email the file to amanda@stl-training.co.uk
I won't have an opportunity to look at this until later today or tomorrow, but if you send it through in the meantime I can look at it as soon as I'm able to.

Kind regards
Amanda

RE: Excel Dragging Formulae

thank you amanda - i have realised that your first suggestion has worked - i needed to highlight the sheet in question before going to tools. which i have now done so thank you for resolving this so quickly.

Excel tip:

Naming and Using Constants

Constants make calculations easier so worksheets are more easily understood. Constant values also need to be given relevant and memorably names. It is also easier to change the value of a constant.

For example:
Instead of entering 17.5% in each cell when you generate a VAT amount you could name a Constant "VAT" and assigning a "0.175" value to it. To do this:

From the 'Insert' menu select 'Name', then select 'Define'.

Enter the constant
