Web design

How do I make changes to/ update a published website?

RE: Web design

Hi Victoria,

Normally you would have a complete copy of your web site 'locally' on your computer. To make a change, first ensure you have the latest copy of the file on your computer (eg. you may want to download the file from your server again to make sure it's current - especially if there is more than one person working on the web site, or you have multiple computers on which you work on the web site).

Then all you have to do is open the file locally on your computer, make the changes in Dreamweaver (or whatever web editing application you use), and then upload (copy) the file to the web server, effectively overwriting the file that used to be there. And your changes will show.

You may need to press 'Refresh' on your browser to see the changes, as your browser may cache the information.

I hope this answers your question.

Regards, Rich

Dreamweaver tip:

Xhtml vs html

When using dreamwear template or just creating a blank webpage, you are able to select the markup language you want to use. The main choices are either xhtml or html. It is now best to select xhtml as this will translate all the html into xml, so it is transmitted across the web in xml format. One of the main advantages of this is that it makes the site that you build much more compatible with the range of different web browsers that exist.
