Hi Helen,
I suggest you use any of the options in your formatting toolbar. An even easier way is to use the Autoformat option. Make sure your active cell is in the table, go to Format menu and AutoFormat then take your pick.

To quickly apply the currency format to cell in your spreadsheet, select (highlight) the cells you wish to apply currency format to, then use Ctrl + Shift + $
This will apply a pounds symbol even though the $ key is pressed.
