Excel links (changing names & moving folders)

Losing links when Changing spreasheet names :
I have several spreeadhseets that are linked together - I want to change the name of the spreadsheets however when i do I lose the links between the various spreadsheets - is it possible to change the name of linked spreadhseets without losing the links and having to manually update the links??

Losing links when Moving folders :
Also, it is possible to copy a folder of spreadsheets to another folder, rename the spreadsheets in the new folder and have the links automatically update (I have tried and have the same issue, when I move the spreadsheets the links still point to the original folder and file name)

Thanks
NICK

RE: Excel links (changing names & moving folders)

Hi Nick

Thank you for your question.

I think once a link is set up and something changes (filename or location of file) you will need to fix the link.

Hi,

If you have the 'master' spreadsheet open and then open the source worksheet, you can 'file, save as' and save it to your new location and the link in the master will be updated.

If you notice that the links in the master file have not updated.....open a source file and tools, options, calculation and ensure automatic is ticked.

One tick appeared to cure all my lost links!

Good luck

Excel tip:

COUNT function vs COUNTA function

The COUNTA function works in the same way as the COUNT function, except that it will count cells that contain text (labels) and also cells that contain numbers (values). The COUNT function will only count cells that contain numbers. Blank cells are not counted by either the COUNT or the COUNTA function.
