how do i build a pie chart?

RE: power point

Hi Katherine

Thank you for your question.

To build a pie chart (or any other type of chart) in PowerPoint:
1. Insert a slide and change the layout to a Title and Chart layout slide.

You can do this by going to Format - Slide Layout and clicking the Title and Chart layout slide at the bottom of the slide layouts on the right of your screen.

2. A datasheet where you enter the chart data will appear on your screen. Directly under where you see A, B, C, D etc at the top of the datasheet you need to enter the names for the sections of the pie, one in each cell/square.

3. Directly underneath the names you have entered, type the value for each pie section, again, each in a separate cell/square. Then you can close the Datasheet by clicking the X in the top right corner of it. Click outside of the pie chart to see it completed.

If you wish to modify the pie chart in any way, e.g. change the colour of a section, then you will need to double-click on the chart to activate it. Then double-click on the part of the chart you wish to modify, and you will get the range of options for modifying that particular piece of the chart.

I hope this helps.
Amanda

PowerPoint tip:

Reset default toolbars in PowerPoint

If you find any of your toolbars in PowerPoint have changed (i.e. they are missing or have extra buttons) then you can reset them to their defaults.

1. Go to Tools - Customise.
2. Select the Toolbars tab.
3. Select (highlight) the name of the toolbar you wish to reset, then click the Reset button on the right.
4. Close the dialogue box.
