TEMPLATES

Hello, hope you are well...

Could you tell me how to edit an exisiting template that you yourself have created without having to rename it?

Also, how do you delete a deign template that you have created, which appears in the Slide Design list?

Many Thanx
Eva

RE: TEMPLATES

Hi Eva,

I am fine and thank you for asking.

To edit an existing template simply go into the slide master and make the changes you wish. If you save it as a design template you can save over the original without having to rename it.

T delete a template you can click on the "Browse" link at the bottom of the task pane and this will open your directory. It is from your directory you can highlight the template you wish to delete and click the cross sign.

Take care and I hope that makes sense if not get back to me

Tracy

RE: TEMPLATES

Hey Tracy,

Thanx for getting back to me...

The delete bit is cool - I managed to suss it out just before I got your response, but thanx anyway.

The edit template bit is not working for me. I created the template as a design template & it then appeared on the RHS amongst all the other designs, however, if I open it & access the slide master to make changes....when I go to save it, the file save as box always appears & does not give me the option to save over the exiting one.

What am I doing wrong? I open Powerpoint and a blank presentation is opened in order for me to view the design templates.... should I be accessing to make changes another way?

Many Thanx!

Re-saving powerpoint design templates

Eva,

When saving changes you've made to a design template, you'll need to change the 'save as' type to a .POT file (powerpoint template file).

eg. Do the same as you suggest above (open it and access slide master to make changes), go to File -> Save As... -> dialogue box appears, and bottom drop-down box is 'save as type'. Change this to be 'Design template (*.pot)'.

The 'save as' dialogue box should then automatically jump to your template folder, and thus your original file should appear in that view. You can now double click your file, which should prompt you to overwrite your original design template.

PS. another way you can do this, is to actually open your original .pot file, rather than start a new presentation BASED on your template and overwrite it again. To do this, go to File -> Open -> change 'Files of type' drop-down box to 'Design templates' -> Your template should appear -> Double click it to open. Now you can make changes, and use Control+S or File -> Save to save the Design template.

Hope this helps you, Eva. Thanks again for attending our Powerpoint Advanced course.

Regards, Rich

PowerPoint tip:

Use templates to save time

If you need to set up a presentation quickly and don't have the time to add the colours and formatting yourself - take advantage of the ready-made templates in Powerpoint 2010.

When you create a new presentation in Powerpoint, you can select a ready made template from the Office.com section in the File menu.
