Vlookup

How can I ensure data for vlookup which come from our client system are clean and the formula works?

RE: vlookup

Hi Susanne,

Thank you for the forum question.

Data can be cleaned using the clean function or extra spaces can be removed if spaces course problems.

If you get hidden characters or leading or tailing spaces from your client system the Vlookup will not work.

The Clean function can remove hidden characters. Add a column next to the column with the imported lookup values. Type =clean(trim(A1)) (A1 only if the first cell you want to clean is A1. Type =clean(trim(C1)) is the first cell you want to clean). And then just copy the clean fuctions down.

Microsoft Office tip:

Using the Quick Access Toolbar in Office 2010

The Quick Access Toolbar is included in virtually every Office product, including Outlook 2010, Word 2010, Excel 2010, and PowerPoint 2010.

You will find the Quick Access Toolbar in the top-left side of the window. To begin, click the Customize button (it's the little black arrow at the end of the toolbar).

Simply click the commands you want to include.

Virtually any command can be added to the Quick Access Toolbar. Click the More Commands option and a new window will open from where you can browse the commands including those not on the ribbon.
