Is there a way ( apart from manually adding text boxes) to create irregular date labels on a chart's x-axis?

Thank you for your post. Yes, it is indeed possible to do this. When you have created your chart, you have the Chart Tools visible in your ribbon. I assume you have entered the irregular dates into the cells which feed into the chart.
On the chart's x-axis, select the row of dates. In the ribbon, select the Layout tab in the Chart Tools ribbon. On the extreme left in the ribbon, it will say "Horizontal (Category) Axis". Select "Format Selection" below this. In the "Format Axis" dialogue box which opens, select "Text axis" under "Axis Type".
This should give you an evenly spaced row of the irregular dates you've entered into the cells.
