Global Templates

What is the recommended setup for centralling managing global templates and its access

RE: Global Templates

Hi Refiya

Thank you for your question. If you can give me some more detail about what you are seeking then please do let me know.

I have a link to a comprehensive Microsoft support article that describes the various locations of Office templates including workgroup or centralised templates.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924460

MS Project has a slightly different angle on global templates. A global or Enterprise template is in fact a project plan containing the settings to be standardised and is the used by Project Server to ensure all subsequently created projects are consistent.

For machines not connecting to a Project Server you might choose to modify the local global.mpt file and copy it to the pcs of other users.

A simpler approach would be to make a project plan, customise it to reflect how your standard projects should appear then save it as a regular template (File > Save As... and choose template)

This template could be placed in a central location and users could then double click it on the network to created their own plans

Let me know more about what you are seeking to achieve withe the global template and I will try to provide further information.

Kind regards,
Andrew
