Excel macros

Is it possible to create a macro doing automatic updates of Excel files to be downloaded from the internet?

RE: Excel macros

Hi Francesca

Thanks for getting in touch. Good to hear from you.

It depends how the files are downloaded. Are they pulled from a secure location? Or is the data pulled into an existing spreadsheet?

Both are possible but it depends on any security in place.

Kind regards

Hi Gary,

many thanks for your prompt reply.
To answer your question, the files are publicly available in Excel format.

RE: Excel macros

Hi Francesca

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately with the setup you've described will be very hard to achieve in Excel VBA. File management of this sort is better handled by scripting languages such as PowerShell.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Excel tip:

Turn off AutoComplete in Excel

You may have noticed when typing into your spreadsheets that if you start to enter labels that begin with the same letters as a label that has been previously entered in the same spreadsheet, Excel will try and automatically complete the text for you. This feature is called AutoComplete.

If you find this feature more annoying than useful, you can turn it off by:

1. Going to Tools - Options.

2. Select the Edit tab.

3. Remove the tick from next to the "Enable AutoComplete for cell values" option.

4. Click OK.
