Combining a background style with another background image

I would like to use a background style from the menu but would like to also use our company logo in the background of each slide. I can't figure out how to select the logo (it's already set as the background) and let it sit on top of the background style I've chosen. I am happy for the background style to do it's usual job, but I need to be able to manipulate the logo using animations, etc. Any ideas?

RE: combining a background style with another background image

Molly If I understand you correctly the logo is in the background of the slide and you can't separate it from the background style.

Go in and amend the slide master by going to view- master slide master and in the main presentation select all objects.

To select all objects go to the Edit menu and choose select all

From the drawing toolbar which is normally at the bottom of the screen select Draw and select Ungroup.

This should detach the logo from the background image and you should be able to manipulate it.

Ctrl+Click to select all other objects apart from the logo to regroup them.

Remain in slide master view and select the logo and apply the custom animation you require.

Hope that helps. If not please upload a slide for us to examine.

Thanks

RE: combining a background style with another background image

Thanks for your help. I have not been able to do what I'm trying to do. I can't even figure out how to select the logo now! I remember doing this in the course, but just can't seem to isolate it.

The instructions, although clear, are frustrating as I could not find an edit menu to select all AND couldn't get the drawing toolbar unless I put in a drawing object, which I don't want.

Apologies if some of this should be obvious to me; I've not done much in pp yet. I can upload a copy of my presentation to this site but I need instructions re: where to do that.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Hi Molly

Thanks for replying please send me the presentation at the following address:newson@stl-training.co.uk

Could you indicate what the logo looks like in your email so that I can distinguish it from the rest of the background

Many Thanks

Newson

RE: combining a background style with another background image

Hi Molly

The background image logo cannot be combined with a style because it is a picture background thus, applying another background gets rid of the picture.

The only way to do what you want is to insert the picture logo into the slide master. Then the picture logo appears on every slide and you can apply animations to it.

The picture logo however has a white border around it which shows up when you apply any other background other than white which makes apply another background a problem

I have included a file with the picture logo you can resize it.

Hope that helps

RE: combining a background style with another background image

Thanks. I have put the logo on each slide (using the master) as an image and will animate it as I planned. I guess I will have to do with a white background to avoid the logo interfering with a style. Thanks for your help... much appreciated.

RE: combining a background style with another background image

Hey, I've managed to get rid of the white background - so much easier now to use a style!

RE: combining a background style with another background image

Hi Molly

As a matter of interest how did you get rid of the white background?

Thanks

Newson

RE: combining a background style with another background image

I selected the picture, clicked on the format tab, clicked the recolor button and then chose the 'set transparent color' option. As I am using a fade effect on the logo and my background is light, the slight white border which remains is barely visible.

I've also asked the company who designed our logo to provide me with a background-free logo, so will see if that works even better.

THanks again for your advice.

PowerPoint tip:

Running PowerPoint Show Without Opening PowerPoint

If you double click on a PowerPoint show, PowerPoint opens and shows the first slide in development mode. To prevent this do the following:

Find your PowerPoint file.

Right click on the file's icon with your mouse.

Select 'Show' from the menu that is displayed. PowerPoint opens and runs your slide Show. When the show finishes, PowerPoint closes.

Your audience never sees the PowerPoint working window at all.

To make it easier place a shortcut to the file on your desktop for quick access.
