Hit Counter usage

On the course, I was shown how to add a hit counter to a page. Is there a process by which I can track how that page was arrived at (e.g. direct typing in of the URL or from a hyperlink on my or someone else's website?

Also, is there a way of tracking how often a articular link has been clicked on a page?

RE: Hit Counter usage

Hi Colin,

You can check if your web hosting company provides you with stats on your web logs. Most hosting providers have this on by default, but you may just need to run your reports to get the data into nice tables and graphs.

Otherwise, you can use the ever-popular Google Analytics, which is free: http://www.google.com/analytics/

To track how a link has been 'clicked', do you mean did they click it with the mouse or using tab and space on the keyboard? Or something else? If the former, I don't think you can, no. If latter, please explain what you mean and I'll get back to you.

Regards, Rich
