Solver

What is the solver utility used for please?

RE: Solver

Solver is a complex "What IF?" scenario solution tool. You are able to use it to analyse possible outcomes for a data model. The example covered in the Excel advanced course is of a company wanting to improve their profit.

You are able to specify the outcome desired, and then choose inputs that can be modified, and also what restrictions you want to put on that change. So you can specify limits that SOLVER will work to to provide an accurate range of solution.

Essentially it is data modelling.

Excel tip:

Customize the toolbar in Excel 2010

You can create your own toolbar which contains your favourite or most used tools. This will make using Excel much more efficient. To do this, you need to click on View, then select Customize Quick access Toolbars and then select Customize. A list of tools will then appear on the screen of which you can add or remove them as you please.
