Microsoft Project Holidays

Can you assign a cost to holidays? In our business we will schedule in holidays but charge them out as a six month project will still have to cover these costs.

Thanks.

RE: Microsoft Project Holidays

Hi Marissa

Thanks for your question. There doesn't seem to be an option in MS Project to apply a resource cost to the resource holidays.

One way is to add the cost to the Fixed Cost Column.

1. Add the holidays as exceptions. (Project, Change Working Time, choose resource, Exceptions)

2. Display the Fixed Cost column in the Gantt entry table and manually calculate and enter the cost of the holiday.

To help with the calculation of the charge for a holiday it is possible to add two columns to the Resource Sheet one for days holiday taken and a calculated field to multiply by the resource Standard Rate.

We will cover calculated fields on the Project Advanced course when you attend.

Hope that helps for now Marissa.

Doug

MS Project tip:

Giving Someone a Gantt Chart Snapshot

To pass on a picture of a Gantt chart segment, choose the appropriate view, select the rows to be included, then click on the camera icon and select For Screen. The graphics image can be pasted into another document. (See Paste icon forn Project 2010)
