Would it be easier to use V Look up for a simple spreadsheet rather than using database function?

there's advantages to both.

I use vlookup a lot and only clogs the system up when you are referencing a lot of cells (and by a lot I mean thousands and thousands)

so I'd say, stick with Vlookup

Excel tip:

Seeing named ranges as part of the zoom

If you have large areas of named ranges this works better.

If you zoom down to 39% you will see your named range.
