Linking to external data

Can you link to an external excel file? If so, how?

RE: Linking to external data

Hi Luigi

The simple answer is Yes. To link a Access to an Excel spreadsheet do the following:

NB You need to make sure that the Worksheet you are linking to has the Column Headings in Row 1.

1. In the Access database Select File / Get External Data / Link tables

2. In the Link dialog box change the File Type to Microsoft Excel and then locate the required workbook

3. Click Link

4. In the Link Spreadsheet Wizard select the required worksheet. Click Next.

5. Tick First Row Contains Column Headings.Click Next.

6. Change the new table's name if required. Click Finish.

Your new table appears in Access with the link symbol and the Excel icon ready to be used.

Hope this helps

Carlos
