Excel

when you want to delete a column why does it say shift cells left or right etc?

RE: Excel

Hi Amie,

Thank you for your question.

The reason it is asking you whether you want to shift cells left or up and the option to Delete the entire column, is because you are not selecting the column itself and are selecting the cells with data in that column.

The best way to delete a column is to select the column by clicking on the column letter itself to select the entire column and then go to Edit and Delete.

I hope this answers your question.

Regards

Simon

Excel tip:

Change the Default Width of All Columns in Excel 2010

If you want to change the width of the columns in your Excel 2010 spreadsheet, making them either larger or smaller, here's how:

In the Cells group on the Home tab, click Format.

Hover over the section called Cell Size and a drop down list will appear, select Default Width from this list.

In the Standard Width dialog box, enter the size you want to set as the default width and click OK.
