Dreamweaver will usually wait until you have finished your code typing before updating the design view. This makes sense, because if you are typing tags, and have not yet completed the tag, the design view might show an error.

If you are viewing 'split screen', you can usually click your mouse into the design view and it should update. Alternatively, you can press the 'refresh' button on the properties panel.
