PowerPoint motion paths

I am trying to do a simple motion for 2 oval text boxes to merge to cross each other.

I simply want a straight horizontal motion line, exactly the same length for each oval text box, and they will be moving towards each other to create what looks a bit like a Venn diagram.

when I right-click on the lines it does not give me the option to edit these, and when I click and drag to move the points, they do not remain horizontal.

Please help as I need this done by 3 today!

RE: PowerPoint motion paths

Hi Norah

Thank you for your question.

Perhaps try the following:

Click on the motion path you have added to your slide, and press Delete to remove it.

Go to Slide Show - Custom Animations.

Select the oval text box on the left hand side of the slide.
On the Custom Animations task pane, click Add Effect, go to Motion Paths and select Right.

Select the oval text box on the right hand side of the slide.
On the Custom Animations task pane, click Add Effect, go to Motion Paths and select Left.

To get the ovals to move at the same time, select the second animation effect (represented by a box) from the Custom Animation task pane, click the dropdown arrow next to it and select Start with Previous.

Click Play at the bottom of the task pane to preview the effects applied.

I hope this helps.

RE: PowerPoint motion paths

Hi,

I've done all this, but just need to shorten the motion paths without them becoming slightly diagonal.

When I right click it does not give me the option to edit (resize) the motion lines, and when I do it manually by clicking and dragging, they become non-horizontal (slightly diagonal).

Thanks,
Norah.

RE: PowerPoint motion paths

Hi Norah

I understand.

If you hold down the SHIFT key when you resize the motion paths this should keep the lines straight.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PowerPoint tip:

What Transition Effect?

You can discover whether a transition effect has been applied to a slide by looking for the transition symbol below the slide in Slide Sorter View, if the slide has a transition symbol, (speeding star) clicking on it will show the transition that has been applied to the slide.
