The naming of the cells can be tedious if there are numerous ranges to be named on the sheet. On <a href=\"\/microsoft\/excel-advanced-courses.php\">our advanced excel training<\/a> course, we teach a quick way of achieving multiple range names, explained below.<\/p>\n<p>Select the whole range of cells that you wish to name. In the example below, we need to name each Quarter and each Department ranges.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/exceltraining\/files\/2012\/02\/fine-furn.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-530\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/exceltraining\/files\/2012\/02\/fine-furn-300x101.jpg\" alt=\"Excel Named Ranges Sheet\" width=\"300\" height=\"101\" \/><\/a>In this example we select A4:F9<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>From the Formula Ribbon, Defined Name Section, Click the <strong>Create from Selection<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/exceltraining\/files\/2012\/02\/Excel-Name-Dialog.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-531\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/exceltraining\/files\/2012\/02\/Excel-Name-Dialog.jpg\" alt=\"Excel Named Range\" width=\"236\" height=\"174\" \/><\/a>Tick the checkboxes that relate to the range you would like Excel to consider for naming.<\/p>\n<p>Ticking Top Row will create range names for each of the Quarter Columns, and the Left Column will create Department name ranges.<\/p>\n<p>Click OK<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Ranges are created and named.
