Excel 2010 include this feature for the first time, which lets you to slice your data by showing you only the element stored in the tables.\u00a0 Real usage of Slicers can be seen with pivot table. Unlike Pivot table, which pivots down the datasheet, it makes you to compare and evaluate the data from different perspectives. This post will explain how you can use Slicer with Pivot Table and Charts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To begin with, launch Excel 2010, and open a datasheet, containing Pivot Table.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"datasheet\" src=\"https:\/\/www.addictivetips.com\/app\/uploads\/2010\/03\/datasheet3.png\" width=\"437\" height=\"276\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We have made Pivot Table and Pivot Chart using the above datasheet.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"pivot table &amp; chart\" src=\"https:\/\/www.addictivetips.com\/app\/uploads\/2010\/03\/pivottablechart.png\" width=\"604\" height=\"412\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The datasheet, containing fields; <em>Software, Sales, Platform, and Month. <\/em>Datasheet shows the software developed using two platforms (PHP, .NET), its price and month in which development completed.<\/p>\n<p>Now we want to create slicers for each category present in Pivot table. For this, select the whole Pivot table, and navigate to <em>Options<\/em> tab<em>,<\/em> click <em>Insert Slicer.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"slicers 1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.addictivetips.com\/app\/uploads\/2010\/03\/slicers1.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"156\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Upon click, <em>Insert Slicers <\/em>dialog will appear, containing fields of the Pivot table. Select the desired one from the list to view respective Pivot table and chart, and click <em>OK.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"insert slicer\" src=\"https:\/\/www.addictivetips.com\/app\/uploads\/2010\/03\/insertslicer.png\" width=\"213\" height=\"304\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You will see box of each field, containing data as shown in the screen shot below.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"each field\" src=\"https:\/\/www.addictivetips.com\/app\/uploads\/2010\/03\/eachfield.png\" width=\"458\" height=\"633\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now we want to view the software developed on PHP platform. For this, we will click <em>PHP <\/em>in <em>Platform<\/em> field box. You will see the pivot table and chart will automatically show all the info related to PHP platform, i.e, in which month it was used, which software developed on this platform and price of the software.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.addictivetips.com\/app\/uploads\/2010\/03\/PHP.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"PHP\" src=\"https:\/\/www.addictivetips.com\/app\/uploads\/2010\/03\/PHP_thumb.png\" width=\"604\" height=\"439\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now if we select August from <em>Month <\/em>field, then it will show all the info related with month of August, i.e, which platform was used to make which software, and what was its price.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"august\" src=\"https:\/\/www.addictivetips.com\/app\/uploads\/2010\/03\/august.png\" width=\"604\" height=\"451\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By using Slicers you can filter down your data in more detail.
