Not everyone understands Gantt Charts so the Timeline offers an alternative way to present a high level project summary.<\/p>\n<p>Now with Project 2016 you can add multiple timeline bars to represent different sections of a project. Here is a simple example where each phase is colour coded.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adding to the Timeline<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Step 1 &#8211; Display the Timeline (View, Timeline)<br \/>\nStep 2 &#8211; Click within the Timeline and select the Format contextual tab.<br \/>\nStep 3 &#8211; Click Existing Tasks and tick the first summary task in the list.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Timelin1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3005 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Timelin1.png\" alt=\"Timelin1\" width=\"940\" height=\"530\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Adding new Timeline Bars<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To add further Timeline bars click the <strong>+Timeline<\/strong> button. Then after clicking inside the second Timeline choose <strong>Existing Tasks<\/strong> as before and click the summary tasks to display.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Colouring Timeline tasks<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Each Timeline can be formatted by choosing the Format tab and selecting a colour from the Background Color tool from the Font section.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Timelin2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3006\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Timelin2.png\" alt=\"Timelin2\" width=\"940\" height=\"529\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adding further tasks to the Timeline<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To add milestones or other tasks click in each Timeline and choose Existing Tasks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Timelin3.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3007\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Timelin3.png\" alt=\"Timelin3\" width=\"940\" height=\"529\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Copying a Timline<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once completed you can copy the Timeline into PowerPoint or Word by selecting:<br \/>\n<strong>Copy Timeline<\/strong>, <strong>For Presentation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Timelin5.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3009\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Timelin5-295x300.png\" alt=\"Timelin5\" width=\"200\" height=\"203\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Multiple Projects<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A handy feature of MS Project is to be able to insert several projects into on master program.
