It can be used with a number of other Excel functions. These are the sorts of tips and hints you can pick up on our <a href=\"\/microsoft\/excel-training-london.php\">Excel training courses London (or online if you prefer)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You can concatenate in Excel by using the Concatenate function or use <strong>&amp;.\u00a0<\/strong>First we will have a look at the\u00a0Concatenate\u00a0function.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1<\/strong> Select the cell in which you want to concatenate text strings. You can type the formula\u00a0<strong>=concatenate(B3,&#8221; &#8220;,C3)\u00a0<\/strong>and click\u00a0<strong>OK<\/strong>. You can also open the function dialogue box shown below and add the information.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/concatenate1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2082\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/concatenate1.png\" alt=\"concatenate1\" width=\"1013\" height=\"546\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2 \u00a0<\/strong>Click OK and the text string will be concatenated. If you need a blank space between two text strings you can do it by using &#8221; &#8221; \u00a0(<span style=\"color: #000000;\">quotation mark + space +\u00a0quotation mark) for one of the text values (see example above).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>You can also concatenate text strings by selecting the cell where you want text strings to be concatenated and type = the cell reference &amp; &#8221; &#8221; &amp; the second cell reference &amp; &#8221; &#8221; &amp; the third cell reference etc.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/concatenate-with-emp.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2216\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/concatenate-with-emp.png\" alt=\"concatenate with emp\" width=\"622\" height=\"340\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Nest the concatenate function in other useful functions.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If you work with the VLOOKUP function\u00a0you may need to lookup a\u00a0value based on information from two or more cells then you can just nest the Concatenate function in the VLOOKUP\u00a0function or if you want to test values from two cells in an<strong>\u00a0If<\/strong>\u00a0function you again can concatenate values from the two cells.<\/p>\n<p>In the example below the full name needs to be tested in an\u00a0<strong>IF\u00a0<\/strong>function. The <strong>Concatenate <\/strong>function is nested in the\u00a0<strong>Logical_Test\u00a0<\/strong>in the <strong>IF\u00a0<\/strong>function.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/concatenate-if.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2217\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/concatenate-if-1024x475.png\" alt=\"concatenate if\" width=\"625\" height=\"289\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the example below the full name needs to be\u00a0found in the commission table to return the correct commission rate..
