One tool that can be used is the Excel Goal Seek. This allows you to choose any current formula and set the answer value to your own goal.<\/p>\n<p>e.g. If you have a formula that works out how much profit you make from selling items, such as \u00a320, but you would like it to be \u00a330 profit, Goal Seek can change various cells to achieve that \u00a330 goal.<\/p>\n<p>Below is an example similar to ones we use on our Excel Training courses based in London. We have a simple loan calculator that uses the PMT function to work out monthly loan repayments.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/exceltraining\/files\/2012\/02\/calc.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-524\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/exceltraining\/files\/2012\/02\/calc-300x186.jpg\" alt=\"Excel Goal Seek Tool\" width=\"300\" height=\"186\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Open the Goal Seek from the Data Ribbon, Data Tools Section, What If Analysis.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/exceltraining\/files\/2012\/02\/ribbon.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-525\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/exceltraining\/files\/2012\/02\/ribbon.jpg\" alt=\"Excel Data Tools Goal Seek Ribbon Bar\" width=\"690\" height=\"163\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Goal Seek dialog appears. Fill out as follows: Enter the cell you wish to set your goal to in<strong> Set Cell<\/strong> Field. Enter the figure you want the Goal to achieve in the <strong>To Value<\/strong> Field. Enter the variable (cell) you would like Excel to change to reach your set Goal in the <strong>By Changing Cell<\/strong> Field.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/exceltraining\/files\/2012\/02\/dialog.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-526\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/exceltraining\/files\/2012\/02\/dialog.jpg\" alt=\"Excel Goal Seek Tool\" width=\"209\" height=\"142\" \/><\/a>Click OK<\/p>\n<p>The Sheet content will change to reflect the Goals set.
