Because not everyone can read a Gantt chart, MS Project comes with a set of pre-designed reports and dashboards to help you better understand your data. You can easily create amazing reports with Microsoft Project. Below is an explanation of the different types of report that can be created.<\/p>\n<h2>Dashboard Report Types<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/projecttraining\/files\/2013\/04\/ZA103231357.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-181 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/projecttraining\/files\/2013\/04\/ZA103231357.jpg\" alt=\"Project Reports\" width=\"216\" height=\"203\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><b>Burndown<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>How much is completed on a project and what\u2019s left to be done.<b><\/b><\/p>\n<h3><b>Cost Overview<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The current status of top level tasks showing planned, remaining costs and cumulative costs.<b><\/b><\/p>\n<h3><b>Project Overview<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>How much of your project is complete, upcoming milestones, and tasks that are past due.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Upcoming tasks<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The work that has been done in the current week, the status of any remaining tasks that were due, and what tasks are starting in the next week.<\/p>\n<h2>Other Report Types<\/h2>\n<h3><b>Cash Flow<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The cost and cumulative cost per quarter for all top level (summary) tasks.<b><\/b><\/p>\n<h3><b>Resource Cost Overview<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The cost status of work resources showing cost details in a table and a chart showing cost distribution.<b><\/b><\/p>\n<h3><b>New Reports from templates<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><i>Chart<br \/>\n<\/i>A chart for your project data, showing actual work, remaining work, and work by default.<\/p>\n<p><i>Table<b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/i>A table for your project data, showing the Name, Start, Finish, and % Complete fields.<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i>Comparison<br \/>\n<\/i>Two charts side-by-side, showing the same project data.<\/p>\n<h3>Visual Reports<\/h3>\n<p><strong>View visual reports instantly in Excel or Visio<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In MS Project, you can also view specific project data as a visual report in Excel or Visio, if you have those programs installed. Select <b>Report<\/b><b>s<\/b>, <b>Visual Reports<\/b>, select an Excel or Visio report for your project data, and click <b>View<\/b>. Excel builds a local Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) cube file and shows your data in an Excel PivotChart or Visio PivotDiagram. This is a legacy feature from MS Project 2010 and earlier.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/projecttraining\/files\/2013\/04\/1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-137 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/projecttraining\/files\/2013\/04\/1.png\" alt=\"MS Project Visual Reports\" width=\"641\" height=\"579\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Examples of Reports<\/h2>\n<p>Here are a few visual examples based on a sample project.<\/p>\n<h3>Cost Overview<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/projecttraining\/files\/2013\/04\/2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-138 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/projecttraining\/files\/2013\/04\/2.png\" alt=\"Create amazing Reports with Microsoft Project\" width=\"917\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Cost Overview report shows the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Costs, Remaining Costs and % complete.<\/li>\n<li>A chart of cumulative costs.<\/li>\n<li>A chart of cost status for top level tasks.<\/li>\n<li>A cost status table for top level tasks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><b>Reporting changes to a project<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>In the same example, the first two phases of the project were completed as planned. There is a delay of 4 days with excavation due to bad weather.\u00a0 The project plan shows which tasks are complete.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/projecttraining\/files\/2013\/04\/3.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-141 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/projecttraining\/files\/2013\/04\/3-1024x418.png\" alt=\"Gantt Chart\" width=\"625\" height=\"255\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Cost Overview Report now reflects the changes made and shows the project as 14% complete. This is a great way of seeing where unnecessary costs are being lost.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/projecttraining\/files\/2013\/04\/6.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-145 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/projecttraining\/files\/2013\/04\/6-1024x588.png\" alt=\"Overallocated Resources\" width=\"625\" height=\"358\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Cashflow Report<\/h3>\n<p>Being able to report and analyse your cash flow visually is a great way to track the spend of a project.
