{"id":1151,"date":"2012-11-08T14:58:07","date_gmt":"2012-11-08T14:58:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.microsofttraining.net\/b\/exceltraining\/?p=1151"},"modified":"2023-12-30T23:11:50","modified_gmt":"2023-12-30T23:11:50","slug":"adding-comments-to-excel-worksheets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/adding-comments-to-excel-worksheets\/","title":{"rendered":"Adding comments to Excel worksheets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Adding comments to an Excel spreadsheet<\/strong> helps when you are sharing a worksheet with colleagues. \u00a0You can add extra information to a figure in a cell, use to note trends, or add an action note.<\/p>\n<p>The comments are hidden when you are working in your normal worksheet view, but you know a comment has been added by the little red triangle in the top right of the cell, If you put your cursor over the cell, the message appears as a yellow post-it style note.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To add a comment to a worksheet<br \/>\n<\/strong>Click on the cell you want to add a comment to. \u00a0Then go to the Review tab, and the Comments group.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1152\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1152\" style=\"width: 268px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/exceltraining\/files\/2012\/11\/Comments-review-tab-training-courses-excel.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1152\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stl-training.co.uk\/b\/exceltraining\/files\/2012\/11\/Comments-review-tab-training-courses-excel.png\" alt=\"Comments-review-tab-training-courses-excel\" width=\"268\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1152\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The comments box appears, I can add my comment press return and it&#8217;s saved. The red triangle in the top right corner reminds me that there is a comment.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I can edit a comment or add to one made by another colleague, by selecting the comment, and using the Edit comment button.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Viewing comments<\/strong><br \/>\nIn a large worksheet, you may want to review all the comments quickly. \u00a0Excel can take you through each one in turn if you select Review tab, then in the Comments group, select Next. \u00a0Excel saves you scrolling through lots of data to find notes, by whizzing you through the document and locating the notes you need.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Printing comments in a worksheet<\/strong><br \/>\nIt can help when reviewing an Excel worksheet in a meeting, if you can have a print out of the sheet with the notes at the bottom of the sheet, or where they appear on screen.
