Word 2013: Open and Edit PDFs

Compressing large file sizes into much reduced versions is one of the PDFs best features. However, up until recently, making changes to a PDF file in Word was all but impossible.

Thanks to Word 2013 you can open PDFs in Word format, edit them and then save them as another PDF or Word Document. That’s great for correcting small errors or updating data to make it more current.

How to: Open Word > Browse PDF file > Open PDF > Start Editing

Tip: The conversion works best with documents that are mostly text. The more images within the text can prompt formatting complications.

Outlook 2013: Stay informed with Social Connectors

new for microsoft office 2013Social networking is an important part of modern day business. Microsoft have recognised this and redesigned Outlook around your favourite platforms, LinkedIn, Facebook and others. Get the updates that you want from the people that you trust, right on time.

When you open an email in Outlook, the Outlook Social Connector is minimized as a single line at the bottom of the Reading Pane. To expand it, click the arrow or drag the top of the minimized pane up until it’s the size that you want.

If you cannot see the Reading Pane or People Pane do the following:

  • How to: Turn on the Reading Pane. View > Reading Pane, and then click Right or Bottom.
  • Turn on the People Pane. View > People Pane, and then click Normal or Minimize.

If you’re still experiencing problems, make sure your organisation lets you connect to the Internet. Many organisations don’t allow access to social networking sites outside of their intranet. Contact your network administrator for more information.
